LOFSDALEN: GLÖTDALSVALLEN. A delightful hike encompassing forests, bogs, and open mountain terrain—all in a single excursion. Experience everything from stunning mountain vistas to the “gold of the fells”—cloudberries. Start at the Hovärken trailhead hub and follow the cross-marked trail along the western edge. The route follows a well-marked path that winds around the base of Mount Hovärken, then descends into the forest toward the area known as Digerbäckskölen, continuing on to a rest cabin. In the forest, the trail features boardwalks across the cloudberry-rich bogs. During the berry season, you can often find an abundance of this “mountain gold”—so bring a small bucket along! You can then enjoy some delicious cloudberries during your snack break once you reach Glötdalsvallen. Along the way, you will cross the Glötån stream, which is home to a healthy population of brown trout; take the opportunity to fill your water bottle with its cold, crisp, and refreshing water. On your return journey, keep an eye out for the abundant wildlife and the scenery, which looks quite different from the outward leg. You are now seeing the other side of Hovärken; even though you are retracing your steps along the same trail, it feels entirely different from this direction. This also makes the ascent back toward Hovärken feel less daunting. Start: Hovärken trailhead hub. View of Hovärken from Glötdalsvallen. Photo: Andreas Edholm. Start: Hovärken trailhead hub.
